Leader of the Thieves' Guild, Chaska likes to think of himself as a decent role model expecting people to better their lives even through doing shady practices to meet their goals. He goes by the alias Raksha when he is actively leading his crew, while Chaska is the name given to him by his mother.
Story
Rising to the Position
Years ago, Chaska challenged his mother (leader at the time) in a formal duel to the death, seeking prosperity through becoming the ringleader and proving his worth. He was the winner of the fight and promptly digested her without a second thought. He wears the remains of his mother around his neck as both a symbolic show of power and prowess, and as a reminder that he too will be faced with this fate one day. This foreknowledge that his life will be short and brutal has given him a reckless, morbid, and fatalistic outlook on life, choosing to face his end in a blaze of glory.
Gods, Gems, and Grudges
Raksha holds a grudge towards Shane, as he was once his protégé. The fox ran off one day and only returned months later to steal from him and the guild, which officially made them enemies. Raksha managed to catch Shane and swallow him whole, at first aiming to make him nourishment, but he thought instead to teach Shane a lesson in humility and have him become a slave. He planned to put Shane up in an auction and was approached by the Corsolis Priest Xolas, who wished to use him as a holy sacrifice for the empire.
While Chaska wanted Shane to become a work slave instead, the amount of money and positive exposure he would gain from a friendly deal with the Corsolis empire swayed him to care less about the fox thief's fate. Preparing for the auction, he is approached by Inca and Purna, and convinces them to join him in Shane's sale.
Later, Chaska holds his auction, with Inca, Purna, and Xolas (a Corsolis priest) engaging in it. Inca soon retreats when the stakes grow too high. Purna and Xolas are left in a situation where all bets will go to Chaska in the end. They continue to outbid, Purna going as far as to offer up herself as a skilled slave to Chaska. Xolas, in the end, wins by offering up his priceless amulet. As Chaska releases Shane from his belly, the auction area is quickly covered in a thick purple smog. Chaska looks around for the now vanished Shane, and the smog soon clears to reveal Inca has swallowed a lifeless Xolas. In fear of repercussions, Chaska has some of his men take away Inca to a nearby cenote to hide her as they figure out how to deal with the situation. Meanwhile, he notices the riches missing, which sends him into a rage, the maned wolf vowing that Purna and Shane will pay for their treachery.
Personality
Chaska, having grown up in harsh dangerous conditions, sees life as a fragile thing and is obsessed with the concept of survival. He understands the brutality of the Amazon and is quite pragmatic as a result. The maned wolf has a very short fuse and seeks to exact revenge on those that wrong him, his primary target being Shane who he himself trained in the art of thievery. Outside of his dealings and business outside, Chaska tends to be a shut-in, not terribly interested in being around people casually.
Forte/Skills
Despite not commonly being around other people, Chaska has a natural skill in persuasion and analyzing others' interests. He is great at adaptation not only in survival but dealing with people and playing around their priorities and wants. He has a vast knowledge of the massive Amazon rainforest, an array of landmarks and settlements embedded in his memory, which helps greatly in navigation and defense. Lastly, Chaska is very skilled with his weapon of choice: the whip. He uses it to lash and ensnare his targets, perfect for when he seeks to devour them.
Trivia
- Chaska originally belonged to Imiut.
