The most gluttonous serpent in the Megawild, Grendel is one of the aides of the leader of the Hunter-Killers, Leopold. Reptiles in the Megawild have their own rituals and practices, but one that resonates with them all is the title of Grendel itself, which is given to the most voracious of reptiles. A snake as big as Grendel doesn't seem to have a hard time achieving this feat. Some reptiles might try to overthrow the holder of the title by working towards ensuring their death! The current Grendel, this anaconda, has held the title for many seasons, and the most thus far, hardly anyone being able to outdo his massive digestive tract let alone kill him. He works for Leopold happily, his jobs usually involving the consumption of large creatures, and he sees the accomplishment of his missions to be plenty rewarding.

Story

The Hunter-Killers

Grendel is tasked by Leopold to bring in Sheila and her pack after they have been located by their scouter Constance. In the dead of night, the anaconda moves to their location to first swallow down Aspen. He slithers into the nearby cave to gulp down Sheila next, reveling in the two wolves filling his stomach, and notices too late that Percy had followed him, the monitor lizard swallowing Michelle whole. The lizard says he cannot trust the snake to digest them on the spot, knowing how he behaved in the past. He and the anaconda head to the estuary and regurgitate them in a dirt pit so they can be approached by Leopold without any incident. The snake observes from a distance, basking in the sun as the lion conversates with them.

The Misfits Strike Back

Leopold tasks Grendel with watching over the pack while he tends to other matters. Grendel continues to lounge until a scream rings from within the pit. He goes to see Michelle swallowing Davy up! He slithers into the pit to confront her while keeping his tail around a post. Suddenly from behind, Sheila body slams him, pinning his head underneath her big gut! He wakes up in a daze, only to see the wolf climbing up his body and then falling onto his head once more, knocking him out completely. He would then be swallowed by Sheila, coiling up in her churning stomach still unconscious.

Personality

Grendel, while being one of the most gluttonous predators in the Megawild, doesn't exactly get by with brain power. The fear that he strikes into many animals is what gives him an advantage, and his massive frame allows him to brute force his way through most problems. He is very carefree and does not pay much attention to what goes on around him. He loves food and does not think about much else, admiring his own plush coils and adding to them. In addition to that, he loves shiny things, much like his superior. As a predator, he is merciless, never giving in to emotions. In the moment he has his prey, nothing matters more to him than sending them down his long, slick gullet.

Forte/Skills

It's no surprise that Grendel's appetite is huge to accommodate such a massive body. Though it seems like his size might make him sluggish, he slithers at a shockingly high speed and strikes with deadly precision! While he, as a snake, has no external ears, Grendel's jaw can pick up vibrations and thus sound, and this bone conductive type of hearing allows him to pick up noise from the earth itself, which allows him to hide and pick up the direction of his prey with ease.

Grendel has the natural ability to sense heat through his pit organs, allowing him to detect warm bodies from many feet away. This is especially helpful in darker hours when he hunts for his next prey.

His body is strong, and his scales really tough but smooth. If he manages to wrap his coils around an animal, they very likely won't escape his jaws. His powerful muscles can easily squeeze the life out of anyone he catches. Finally, if his prey is fully aware, Grendel can hypnotize them with his shining, golden eyes, though this works better in a dark environment.
