Meriel (or Mary, or Meriel II) is a runaway from the Ash Gang, a notorious collective of bandits residing in the hilly plains south of the Rimewood forest. Tired of their cruel ways and the indifference to the death of her mother, Mary decided to take a big risk and abscond from the gang, living life by her own rules and motives. She is hunted down by Raynaldus, the Ash gang leader and her father, every day, and she is always on the move. When she can relax, Meriel makes her home in an abandoned cottage south of Ashmound, a dangerous area to be sure, though she has the help of a special, life-sized friend to protect her from the witches and bandits that plague the area.
Story
Affinity with Dragons
Mary has spent a good amount of time surveying and stealing from a village protected by the royal Bluerose family. She is one day caught by Sir Brant himself, a highly decorated knight of Bluerose Castle. The wolf knight chases down Meriel until the cat runs into a cliff face, finding herself in an area of certain danger. She is then ambushed by the knight, who had taken off his armor to remain silent, and is swallowed whole by him.
Sloshing about in the belly of Sir Brant, Meriel soon hears him facing off two abominations. She asks the knight to let her out to fight the monsters with him. He lets her out, but commands her to run, not wanting her to meet her end at the claws of such hideous creatures. Meriel runs, but quickly locates Sir Brant’s sword, flinging it to him at the perfect time for the wolf knight to finish the two monstrosities.
Mary, starstruck by Sir Brant’s noble deed in protecting her life, makes herself known to him again, only for the two to be ambushed once more, but this time by two bandits of the Ash gang. This is quickly resolved, however, by the dragon Taldra swooping in. Meriel tackles Sir Brant to the ground to save him from a big tail sweep by Taldra. The dragon scoops up the two evil-doers and stuffs them in her mouth, only for Meriel to pull out a magical stone that allows her to communicate with the dragoness directly. She asks for Taldra to feed her one of the villains, and she does so rather forcefully, stuffing him deep into Mary's gut with her giant tail.
Meriel is taken aback when Sir Brant freaks out about her communicating with a dragon as well as being the daughter of the Ashmound leader. Taldra coils her tail around him next and is about to eat him when Meriel interjects, begging her to keep him alive. Taldra is not in agreement with this, but Meriel insists that they should keep him alive to teach him to abandon his bias about the nature of dragons and their relationship. Meriel succeeds in persuading the dragoness, and the two travel back to Taldra's lair with Sir Brant in tow, stuck in the dragon's maw.
Present Day
Meriel and Taldra go about their days, but keep Sir Brant close to them until they can change his outlook on them.
Personality
Meriel is a spunky cat who prefers to live by her own rules out in the wilds. She scoffs at the face of any sort of authority, including her own father’s, making her a very rebellious one. Isolating herself from so many others causes her to be lonely, but her dragon friend, Taldra, sometimes keeps her company. Mary is especially close to anyone she considers her friend, even if it’s a dragon, and she can be rather clingy.
Mary is not totally unreasonable when it comes to judging others of a higher class. Sir Brant stands out to her as a figure of authority who has honor, which is leaps and bounds compared to most other knights who abuse their power. Being out in the wild and on her own has caused the feline to be open-minded and eager to learn. With her Sonustone, she is particularly interested in learning more about dragons, though Taldra is not always available.
Forte/Skills
Meriel’s daggers, ones that belonged to her father originally until she stole them, are her primary weapons of choice. She has also been trained extensively in the art of archery, and owns a bow of her own. She crafts her own arrows, lending to her skill in assembling her own devices, like smoke bombs and traps.
Her most notable skill is being able to communicate with dragons with the help of a Sonustone that her mother passed down to her. In a sense, Taldra would have been passed down to her as well, as the dragoness was a good friend of Meriel’s mother, though the dragon has little patience for Meriel’s attitude at times.
